Random Monday Memories #20 . . .

We enjoyed making more memories on Sunday.
The kids came over for dinner.
But, first let me tell you about a memorable moment on Friday.

My hubby, Bob, was honored with a
luncheon to celebrate 40 years of service with his company.

I know. . .that's a long time to work in one place.
I'm so happy the whole family was there
to help Bob celebrate his accomplishment.

Sunday, Bob tried out his new smoker for the first time.

Carving the chicken.

Something for everyone . . .
bologna, pork roast, hot links, chicken
Of course, the best part of the day was spending time
with the grandkids.
Oh, and Bobby and Kari too!

Wishing you a great Monday . . .

Friday Show and Tell . . .

The feel of Autumn is in the air this morning.
63 degrees feels amazing!
Only 28 days until fall begins!

This is a particle re post from 2008.

                                                                     Cozy Quilts
If you're like me, you like to stay warm and cozy while napping, reading, or watching TV. What better way to get cozy than with a quilt. There is something so comforting about a quilt, especially antique quilts.

Here are some quilts in my upstairs linen closet just waiting to be used.

These antique quilts are really tattered.
I think they look pretty in this basket in the laundry room.

This antique quilt belonged to my Grandma Minnie.
I made the quilted kitty for her many years ago.
When she passed away I brought it home and
gave it a place to live in the guest room.

This beautiful blue quilt was my great grandma Berger's
I took it to college with me at Oklahoma State,
it kept me warm in my dorm room at Willard Hall.
The orange quilt belonged to hubby's mother, Verna.
I even think pictures of quilts give warmth to a room.
I stitched these way back in the '80s.
Wow, if I tried to do a project like this today I'd have to buy one of
those fancy lighted, magnifying lamps.
Too many years grading papers under  fluorescent lighting.

Hope you have a quilt to cozy up with when the wind starts to howl!

Wishing you a fantastic Friday, until next time take care . . .

Restored Treasures . . .

Last week my high energy, younger sister, Susan, got busy restoring some of my treasures that I have been wanting to re-do for a long time.
Disclaimer . . . I forgot to take any before pictures . . . shame on me!

Here is a picture of me on my 1st birthday with the little rocker
my grandparents, Luther and Minnie, gave me.
I sat in this rocker until I was about 9 years old.
Through the years the seat separated and split and the
spindles became loose.
Susan sanded, glued, and sealed the wood with spray matte varnish.

Now, the grandkids can enjoy rocking when they visit.

This little vanity seat has been in my attic for years.
My parents bought it with Green Stamps for my 10th or 11th birthday.
It was gold and had a pink cushion.
Susan sanded it and sprayed it black.
Believe it or not the black spray paint has been stored in my garage
for years and it was still good!

I've had this little chest for about 20 years.
I used it for a long time in my sewing room to store notions.
Its original color was a red color that had faded.
The drawer pulls were chunky hearts and there
was a heart cutout at the top.
We shopped for new drawer knobs at Hobby Lobby.
I could not sustify paying $24.00 for knobs.
In the jewelry making section we found a strand of beads for $4.99.
We glued them on after all of us sanded to give the chest a worn look.
Also bought the fluer de lis at Hobby Lobby.
Perfect cover for the country heart cutout.

The little drawers are perfect for storing some cute cloth napkins Susan made.

Gosh, if Susan lived closer there's no telling what other projects
I could accomplish!
Thank you sis for your hard work and inspiration!

My New Favorite Quote . . .

"You is kind. You is smart. You is important."
— Kathryn Stockett
 (The Help)

I know . . .
this is not proper grammar,
so when I say this to my grandchildren
I will say . . .
"You are kind.  You are smart.  You are important."

My sisters and I saw this.
Excellent!
Made us cry and laugh!

Random Monday Memories #19 . . .

Memories from the week
 of
 August 12-19, 2011 . . .

Last week was a dream come true for me.
I enjoyed having both my sisters here.
The days were filled with shopping trips, cooking, looking at old pictures, sharing stories and memories from days past, seeing the movie "The Help", and much more!

We had a family Sunday dinner on the 14th.

Mary and Susan helped me get all the side dishes together
and Bob smoked some great ribs, pork loin, and bologna.

The three amigos. . .
Susan, Mary, and me.

Dessert was homemade ice cream.

After dinner we looked through boxes and boxes of old photos
with Bobby and Kari.  We scanned many pictures that I will share later.

The house is quiet again.

Susan went home to Missouri early Saturday morning.
She picked up her husband, Mike, at the airport Friday night.
He had been in Wales, England, and France
on a business trip all week.

Mary flew home to Houston on Sunday morning.

I wish my sisters lived closer!

Sister Fun Continues . . .

My sisters have been here since Friday and we're having so much fun.
We've been enjoying looking at old photos, laughing, and sharing stories and memories.

Yesterday morning we ventured out to Jenks for treasure hunting.

We spent several hours in this antique mall.
Saw a lot of neat stuff, but I didn't buy one thing.
I may go back  soon to look at some cool items
again and make some purchases.
My sisters bought some fun treasures.

Today we plan to work on some pillow sewing projects
and see the movie "The Help".

Come back soon to see more pictures and updates.

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday . . .

Teachers . . .

This is dedicated to all you teachers who will be
returning to the classroom soon.
It's also dedicated to all of us who are retired teachers.
I kept this quote on my refrigerator for years.
I always feel warm and fuzzy when I read it.

Most of us end up with no more than five or six people who remember us. Teachers have thousands of people who remember them for the rest of their lives.   ~ Andy Rooney

Rooster & Hen Party . . .

It's a cock~a~doodle~doo party!

is hosting a rooster and chicken party!

Welcome to my
rooster and hen party!
Most of my collection is in this old
cabinet in the kitchen.

I found this big guy in my favorite flea market in Branson, Missouri.

The little green salt and pepper shakers were
a gift from my parents.

The colorful roosters were found in the attic of my
parents' shoe store many years ago.

This proud pair also came from the shoe store attic.
The small rooster and bowl full of eggs
were gifts from my sister, Susan.
Rooster plates were a gift from my sister, Mary.
Sister, Susan, gave me the dish rack.
I Love my platter and pitcher that I bought at
a cool little shop in Stillwater, OK several years ago.
These chickens look like they're having fun at the party.

My rooster lamp came from a Hallmark store
in Stillwater.

I found this clock at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $5.00 a few years ago.

This primitive rooster was a $10.00 bargain at Target last summer.

Thanks a bunch for visiting today!

Now, don't forget to visit Shelia so you can see all the
blogging friends who are participating in the party.

Craving A Chocolate Chip Cookie?

Have you ever thought to yourself, "I'm craving chocolate chip cookies, but I don't want to make an entire batch?" This amazing and easy recipe will save you time and smash that hungry feeling. Here is how to make a single chocolate chip cookie.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon white granulated sugar

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon butter

1 to 2 tablespoons chocolate chips

1 tablespoon water

1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract (essence)

Pinch of salt

Pinch of baking soda

5 tablespoons flour

(1)Preheat the oven to 350°F or 180°C.
(2) Measure all the ingredients in a small bowl. Mix and mash thoroughly with a fork. It's easier if the butter is slightly softened rather than using a hard-brick.
(3) Add the mixture to the center of a pre-greased cookie sheet.Add the mixture to the center of a pre-greased cookie sheet. To make it easier to bake evenly, smooth the mixture out as a thin layer.
(4) Bake for 15-17 minutes. Bake for an additional 1-2 minutes if the cookie is too soft or gooey.
(5) Let cool on a plate and enjoy.
 It's that simple!

I want to thank an old high school friend , Steve, for sharing this recipe on Facebook.

Wishing you all a terrific Thursday . . .
